Traffic numbers are not useless, but they are easy to obsess over. People watch analytics like a scoreboard and start changing everything when numbers dip. That usually harms the site.
I focus on ownership because it is stable. If you own the domain and the site structure is clear, you can keep improving regardless of short-term traffic. Over time, quality pages tend to find their audience.
Traffic is also noisy. Bots exist. Platforms distort. One viral spike can make you feel successful while changing nothing long-term. One quiet month can make you feel like you failed while the site is actually maturing.
Ownership is different. It is about having a real place online that you can build on for years. If traffic comes, great. If it comes slowly, you can still keep building. That is why I start with the asset, not the scoreboard.
This note explains the thinking behind the main system.
